Loose Threads do the galleries

Who are the Loose Threads? A group of eight friends brought together by a mutual love of quilting. We've been going now for what must be twelve years and in that time our friendship has been bonded by times of great joy and sorrow. I feel truly blessed to have such wonderful friends.

We meet twice a month at each other's homes and if there's a fifth Tuesday in the month, that's the time to give ourselves an extra treat. This Tuesday we decided to take in two exhibitions, Cressida Campbell's Timeless: The Art of Cressida Campbell;

and Margaret Olley's Life's Journey.

These two women artists are among the top of my favourites list, so to have them both exhibiting in Brisbane at the same time was indeed a treat. There were only four of us on Tuesday and we made the most of the glorious early autumn weather by taking the City Cat into the city for the Cressida Campbell exhibition.

If you are anywhere near Brisbane over the next week or so, do yourself a favour and get yourself to the QUT Gallery, where I guarantee you will be transported by the extraordinary paintings of Cressida Campbell. Her woodblock technique is nothing less than stunning.

After lunch in the city, we hopped onto the City Cat to the University of Queensland to the Margaret Olley exhibition. This amazing exhibition of water colour art is quite extensive and takes in the artist's travels from the 1950s up to the 1970s. No wonder she is considered our living treasure.

By coincidence, this Cressida Campbell woodblock painting is of Margaret Olley's living room.

We are so fortunate in Brisbane today to have an abundance of world class galleries which hold the most wonderful exhibitions. We levitated back to our car which we had parked in the university grounds earlier in the day and drove home.

To complete the perfect day, a large parcel was waiting for me at the post office - my fabric order from the States. Bliss.

I loved both of these exhibitions. The woodblock technique Cressida uses blew me away, I've never come across anything like it. And I love her colour palette, an absolute feast for the eyes!

A very good day! I visited the QUT gallery last week but unfortunately didn't see the Cressida Campbell exhibit. I popped into the gallery space on the opposite side and checked out the photographic exhibition. I wasn't aware of the Cressida Campbell one and didn't venture into that area because it was super crowded! I now understand why it was so busy! I'll be sure to go back to have a look. We are very lucky to have so many wonderful galleries in Brisbane. This little town has come so far in the last few years, and it doesn't look like slowing down any! So I guess you didn't have time to check out the Nick Cave exhibition then ;D

That's a super bundle of fabric there!
